Step 1
Today the economic situation in Greece is critical. A great country with a fertile climate and stunning beauty of nature is on the verge of default. Local residents are conceived to be saved from bankruptcy only by an additional influx of tourists. But all this makes the procedure for obtaining citizenship in Greece more accessible. A child born in this country automatically receives Greek citizenship. If one of his parents is Greek, the issue of citizenship is not even raised. If not, then the child is granted Greek citizenship if he does not receive it in any other country.
Step 2
Before applying for Greek citizenship, you must be of legal age. Take up the study of the Greek language: without it, you shouldn't even try to apply. You must be fluent in Greek at the resident level, otherwise you will not be able to pass the interview and language tests. Study Greek culture and history as this information can also be included in the exam. Make sure you have no criminal record in the past 10 years and your name is not on the state deportation list. To qualify for Greek citizenship, you must have legally lived in Greece for at least 10 years, and this period can be added up over the past 12 years. Step 3
If you meet all of the above requirements, you can prepare a package of documents. It should include the following:
1. Copy of your passport.
2. Application according to the established model, certified by the city hall.
3. Residence permit confirming your legal residence in Greece for the past years.
4. Tax return showing your official activities and income in Greece.
5. Birth certificate.
6. Receipt for payment of the state fee (it is about 1500 euros).
After that, you will be scheduled for an interview, during which you will have to answer questions from completely different areas of life. The procedure for considering documents and making a final decision can take 3-4 months.
