Prayer is a dialogue with God through which a person learns that the Lord is involved in everything that happens in life. In prayer, it is very important not only to speak and speak out yourself, but also to hear His answer. But it so happened that people, even having understood the whole necessity of turning to God, simply do not know how to properly address Him and what words to use in this case.

Step 1
Anyone can get an answer to prayer. It doesn't matter where you pray: in a church or in front of an icon in your house. The main thing is to start and finish the prayer correctly. First of all, approaching the icon, try to fully concentrate on prayer, discarding everyday worries. You will return to them a little later.
Step 2
Before starting to read the prayer, spiritually tune yourself and believe that the Saint hears you. At the same time, remember that you need to pray not to the icon itself, but to the image of the Saint depicted on it.

If you do not know the words of the prayer, you can read the prayer in your own words. But in critical cases requiring special prayer zeal, it is worth preparing for prayer by memorizing it. You need to read the prayer from a pure heart, then the result of your appeal to God will not be long in coming.

Before you start praying at the icon, you should cleanse yourself. To do this, before you start reading a prayer or the day before that, forgive everyone with whom you have a relationship at the moment not in the best way.

After reading the prayer to the Saint, in front of whose icon you are standing, go to the end of the petition. To do this, say: "Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, both now, and ever, and forever and ever." Embrace yourself with the sign of the cross three times, while reading “Lord, have mercy”, then “Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Thy Most Pure Mother, reverend and God-bearing father of ours and all saints, have mercy on us. Amen".

Once again, overshadow yourself with a sign, and then say: "In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit." Now you can turn to the Saint with your request. You can ask for anything and everyone. The main thing is that your appeal to the Holy One must come from a pure heart. After you have voiced all your concerns, say "Amen" and cross yourself with the sign of the cross.

At the end of the prayer service, do not forget to kiss the icon. By doing this, you will express your reverence to the Holy One to whom you have turned. In addition, the kiss symbolizes faith in this Saint. If you prayed in front of an icon on which the Saint is depicted at full height, kiss your hands or feet. On a miraculous image, on which only a face is written, kiss your hair. And on the icon of the Mother of God, touch your lips to the shoulder, which depicts a star.
