There are many holidays in Orthodoxy. Some have already entered our lives so tightly that it is difficult to meet a person who, for example, does not paint eggs for Easter or does not go to fetch water at Epiphany. However, in the Eastern Christian tradition there is a memory of the event, which is the most solemn holiday of the Church.
Easter holiday - the triumph of the Christian faith
If you open the Orthodox Church calendar, you can see a lot of highlighted days and red numbers. This typographic symbolism is applied to the designation of Christian holidays. Some are in black bold, others are written in large crimson letters. This is no coincidence, because there are several types of holidays in the Church.
In the Christian tradition, it is customary to distinguish 12 main events related to the earthly life of the Lord or the Mother of God. For example, the Day of the Holy Trinity, Nativity of Christ, Baptism, Ascension, Dormition of the Mother of God and several others. These days are called bi-high holidays. There are also great holidays, such as the Protection of the Virgin, the memory of the apostles Peter and Paul, and several others. But one historical event is remembered in Orthodoxy with special solemnity and grandeur of divine service - the Easter of Christ.
Bright Resurrection of Christ is the main triumph of the Orthodox faith. In it, a person's faith in the victory of the Lord over the devil, death, giving people the opportunity to be in paradise again is realized. Orthodox Christians know that the resurrection of Christ is not just a mythological event, but a real fact of human history. It is no coincidence that scientists came to the conviction that Jesus entered human history and became a real person.
The Resurrection of the Lord shows man the eternity of life and the triumph over death. According to Christian teaching, everyone will be resurrected, like Christ on the day of the second coming of the God-man.
Divine services on this day in churches are distinguished by special splendor and solemnity. The main Orthodox holiday is accompanied by majestic hymns proclaiming great joy to mankind. On this day, cakes and eggs are consecrated, which are brought to the temples by millions of people. In the days of Easter joy, the greetings "Christ is Risen" are heard everywhere. All this symbolizes the great contribution of the Easter holiday to the culture of the Russian people.
