The story "Ionych", written by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, raises topics that were close not only to the writer's contemporaries, but also to us. The problem of turning an educated person, once filled with lofty dreams, into an ordinary person, absorbed in materialism, is more urgent than ever.
Instructions
Step 1
Dmitry Ionovich Startsev, who arrived in the provincial town of S., is a talented doctor who works day and night in the hospital. The personal drama of this man began with his acquaintance with the intelligent family of the Turkins. The life of this family amuses at first, and then strikes with its artificiality. But the Turkins are just the face of the city. They are not alone - the entire city of S. is filled with ordinary people who are only interested in delicious food, soft armchairs and cheerful leisure.
Step 2
How did this immersion of the toiler Startsev begin into the swamp of an unreal life, where the desire to own things overpowered the desire to serve people, discover new things, and sincerely love? The doctor's tragedy was the unwillingness, and maybe the inability to go his own way. It is always more tempting to go with the flow than to find your way. Being an intelligent person, Startsev understood perfectly well that it is easier not to talk with the townsfolk on topics that excite him, that it is easier to "give up and walk away." Having mastered this, he became silent about the painful
Step 3
Startsev does not want to turn into a likeness of the Turkins, but he can no longer do something real that does not run counter to his state of mind. His soul was lazy. He is sickened by the creation of his own family, which can turn into the same fake as his familiar family. "Infection of the city of S." penetrated into Startsev, whom no one called anything other than Ionych, it took only a few years.
Step 4
The transformation of a living talented person into an empty shell is a warning to Anton Pavlovich Chekhov and his contemporaries, and to us - people living in another era. Before every person, without exception, there is a moment of serious moral choice in life, which will determine the whole future life. How fraught with consequences such a choice can be can be seen in the example of the hero of the story "Ionych". Chekhov repeatedly in his life noted the main misfortune of his compatriots - they do not know how to work on their state of mind, they are not capable of moral feat, of creating within something whole, a clearly built integral picture of the world: “In his youth, he greedily fills his soul with everything that it has fallen under the arm, and after thirty years some kind of gray rubbish remains in it."
Step 5
In order not to become Ionych, you need to work day after day, not only physically, but also mentally. The hero of the story once left the path of intense mental labor, could not squeeze a slave out of himself, did not want to make a choice in favor of hard work on himself.
Step 6
Instead of a conclusion, the words of the writer about himself, who suggested how not to get off the right path: “It is necessary, the feeling of personal freedom, and this feeling began to flare up in me only recently. I didn't have it before … Write how this young man squeezes out a slave from himself drop by drop and how, waking up one fine morning, he feels that it is not a slave, but a real human one that flows in his veins."
