Simon Green is a popular science fiction writer from England. He began publishing his works as a student, but became widely known much later, when he published the series of books "The Hunter of Death" and "Hawk Fisher".
Biography: early years
Simon Richard Green was born on August 25, 1955 in Bradford-upon-Avon, Wiltshire, England. In this small town, the streets of which strongly resemble medieval ones, the childhood of the future science fiction writer passed.
After school, Simon moved to Leicester, where he continued his education at the local university at the Faculty of Philology. Within its walls, he studied history, modern English and American literature.
The first book was written by Green in 1973. Initially, as they say, he wrote to the table without thinking about publishing his works. However, then Simon reconsidered his views and decided to publish the stories. He managed to sell the first of them in 1976. But the story, which was called "Killer Killers", was released much later. Green began to send works to publishers, but for a long time his manuscripts were brushed aside.
Career
In 1988, Simon went to work as a salesman in a book store in Bath, southwest England. He soon received a reply from the publisher, to whom he had sent the manuscripts two years earlier. It turned out that he did not immediately familiarize himself with them. The publisher offered Simon a contract under which he was to write several novels. This is how the famous Hawk and Fischer series was born.
In 1991, the adventure picture Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was released. The main character was played by Kevin Costner, who at that time was not yet so famous. He also served as the second director. Simon Green approached the filmmakers with a proposal to write a novel that would be an artistic adaptation of the plot. In the literature, such works are called novelizations. The creators agreed, asking for a fee of 4% of the book's sales. At that time, few people believed in the success of not only the novel, but also the film itself. And the success was deafening. The film became a record holder at the box office, and Simon's book became a bestseller. Its circulation was about 400 thousand.
Green has written several series of books on his account, including:
- "Dark side";
- "Forest Kingdom";
- Death Hunter;
- "World of Mists".
Green's books are in demand among modern connoisseurs of the fantasy genre. Many readers often refer to Simon's novels as “the golden mean of fantasy. In his books, everything is in moderation - morality, humor, riddles. The main merit of Green, literary critics call the ability to create the atmosphere of those worlds in which the action unfolds.
