Many older people feel nostalgic at the words "school uniform". In the USSR, it was impossible to imagine students in various clothes at their desks. Wearing a uniform at school was justified as the cost was low compared to casual wear.
In the USSR, there was no particular choice of school uniforms, for boys there was only one version of a suit at a fixed price, only girls sometimes had a choice of styles of a dress or an apron. But more often than not, the same goods were brought to the store, everyone bought them, and the children in the class did not differ at all from each other.
What girls could choose
The girl's school uniform is a dress and an apron. The dress was only brown and was made of fine woolen fabric. Styles were monotonous, fashion designers preferred straight cut. With a stand-up collar, such dresses cost about 8-10 rubles, the price of the late 70s. Dresses with pleated skirts were rare and difficult to obtain. It was a real shortage! They looked very beautiful and cost more - about 15 rubles. By the way, both of these dress models, straight and pleated, could be either with a stand-up or with a turn-down collar. This fact did not particularly affect the price.
The uniform was an excellent option to smooth out the differences between the financial situation of families.
It was imperative to buy two aprons, one black, the other white. The black apron was sewn in the same way as the dress, made of high-quality woolen fabric, it cost about 3.5 rubles in the prices of the 70s, and the white one was sewn from cotton fabric, it cost a little less - around 3 rubles. White cuffs and collars were necessarily bought for the dress; they had to be sewn on by themselves. They were inexpensive, from 50 kopecks - unpretentious, made of ordinary white fabric, to the ruble - more refined, made of lace or sewing. They were often made independently, it was not a problem to make a collar from a silk ribbon for a stand-up collar, the cost then turned out to be no more than 10 kopecks.
School uniform for boys
In the USSR, the school uniform for boys did not differ in special lines, it was an ordinary pair of trousers. In the 50s, a jacket was worn with trousers, but later it was replaced by a jacket. The color of this outfit was only blue, on the sleeve was an oilcloth emblem with an open book against the background of the rising sun. The paint was applied fragile, after washing it usually peeled off, then the emblem was simply stripped off.

Due to the low price, large sizes were in short supply, adult men bought them for themselves.
We also needed shirts, they could be different, but not flashy. It was possible to go to school in a pioneer uniform. Girls could use a skirt, but without a shirt, and with a jacket or sweater. During the winter time was a great option. The price of the pioneer uniform was also low, a skirt cost about 4 rubles, a shirt - 3 rubles. She was the same for boys and girls, differed only in color, was often white, but sometimes blue.
