History of origin

For polishing in Fedoskino, oil chromium oxide is used. A mirror surface is achieved on a rotating circle, manually bringing complex curves to a shine. The technology is strictly adhered to at every stage and for every product. The quality is confirmed by a certificate.

The craft was born in 1795. For his production, the agile entrepreneur Korobov brought technology from Germany and began making boxes, decorating their lids with pasted pictures. From the second quarter of the century before last, items were painted with miniatures made in the classical manner.

Traditionally, the motives were Russian fairy tales and views. Exquisite bright little things, needle cases and caddies quickly became popular. The whole country liked them, and therefore they were in every home.

Features of the

It is based on multi-layered writing with oil paints with gold leaf and mother-of-pearl. For the case, they took wood cardboard. The workpiece was impregnated with linseed oil and dried in an oven.

Then the future box was primed and polished to a perfectly smooth surface. The final stage was the coating of the product after painting with varnish in several layers. The boxes were red on the inside, black on the outside.

It took up to six months to work. But the things made by technology could live for at least a century without deformation and the threat of drying out.

Preserving traditions

Modern craftsmen spray aluminum powder onto the lacquered surface. It is an excellent replacement for traditional soil. The transparent paint applied to it shines through the metal, creating an amazing effect.

Sometimes mother-of-pearl and gold leaf play the role of soil. A silhouette drawing is applied over the coating through tracing paper.

The first layer is called underpainting. It displays shadows and tones. After application, the products are dried at a high temperature to speed up the process.

Stages of work

Then a lacquer layer is applied and the products are placed in the oven. Layer-by-layer grinding is carried out with pumice powder. The result is a perfect plane.

Marking involves careful prescription of details. Then the box is again sent to dry and covered with another varnish layer. Finally, a glare is performed. Here the smallest details are emphasized, accents are placed and highlights appear.

After drying, the box is covered with at least ten coats of varnish and the appearance of the product is polished to perfection. The artist applies the ornament with the thinnest steel pen, puts the date of manufacture and the signature.
