The main character of all seasons of the series (except for the last one) is Dr. John Michael Dorian, whom everyone called JD, played by American actor Zach Braff. Christopher Duncan Turk (played by Donald Faison) is a black friend of the protagonist. Together with J. D., they first studied at the institute, and then ended up in one place of work, in addition, they rented an apartment together.

Elliot Reed is another young doctor played by actress Sarah Chok. Elliot and JD made up one of the series' love lines, young doctors often quarreled and got back together.

Carla Espinosa is another black character of the series, the head nurse of the clinic, played by Judy Reyes. Dr. Robert Kelso, played by Ken Jenkins, is another veteran physician who is in constant conflict with Dr. Cox.

The first season contains twenty-four episodes and gradually reveals the main storylines to the audience. The second season (twenty-two episodes) is the second year of work at the Sacred Heart Clinic, his brother comes to Dorian, and Dr. Cox begins to communicate with his ex-wife again.

The third season (twenty-two episodes) focuses on the relationship between Dorian and Elliot, as well as the engagement and wedding of Terk and Karla. In the fourth season (twenty-five episodes), Turk and Clara taste the problems of a young family, and JD finally becomes a doctor.

In the fifth season, consisting of twenty-four episodes, new interns finally appear at the clinic. And the sixth season (twenty-two episodes) is dedicated to children. Dorian and Dr. Kim Briggs have a baby, Tekr and Karla raise a daughter, and Dr. Cox also has a baby.

The seventh season consisted of only eleven episodes and told about the later life of doctors concerned with problems with children. The eighth season (nineteen episodes) is marked by the appearance of a new head physician - Taylor Maddox. And JD is going to leave the clinic to be closer to his son.

In parallel with the eighth season, the Internet series "Clinic: Interns" was released. Each four-minute episode was performed in the format of video notes by young doctors.

The last ninth season included thirteen episodes and told about the events taking place a year after the eighth season. Almost all doctors became teachers of the medical university, and the action of the series moves to an educational institution.
