The Monk Matryona of Moscow today is probably the most famous and revered of the new Russian saints. A beggar, illiterate, blind peasant woman who wandered in other people's homes for almost a quarter of a century, won the hearts of people with her deep faith in the church, the ability to predict and the gift of healing. The belief in healing from the blessed eldress is so strong that thousands of parishioners strive to get to Matryona's temple, relying on her almighty help.
Burial place
On the grave of Matryona Moskovskaya, which is located at the Danilovskoye cemetery in Moscow, there is a small chapel where pilgrims pray all the time. Here they seek solitude and turn to the Great Martyr with their prayers. Next to the grave there is a vessel with miraculous sand, which has healing properties. The burial place can be reached by metro to Shabolovskaya station, then by tram # 26 to Dukhovskiy lane or on foot from Tulskaya metro station. The Danilovskoye cemetery itself is located at the 4th Roshchin passage, 30.
The relics of Matryona
Today the relics of the great eldress have found their rest in the Intercession Monastery of the capital on the street. Taganskaya, 58. Here, in line to worship her relics, you can meet believers from the most secluded corners of Russia. Pouring rain, piercing wind or snowy weather do not stop the parishioners. Here a long line of pilgrims goes around the temple, and its end goes into the depths of the church territory. Some believe that Saint Matronushka will help them solve their everyday troubles or get rid of serious ailments, others are looking for here simply salvation from the worldly vanity.
At the lowest request of the abbess of the Intercession Monastery, Abbess Theophania, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II ordered in 1998 to transfer the relics of Blessed Matryona from the Danilov cemetery to the Intercession Church at the monastery. However, you can also worship the shrine in other metropolitan churches, where there are icons with particles of the relics of the great eldress.
