Step 1

The composition and principle of organization of an orchestra of folk instruments of a particular country depends on the characteristics of the musical culture of a given nation. They include folk instruments in a historically authentic or reconstructed form. Orchestras of folk instruments are divided into homogeneous, consisting of the same domras, balalaikas, bandura, and mixed, consisting of various instruments.

Step 2

Orchestras of folk instruments perform transcriptions of classical works, arrangements of folk songs and music written especially for them by composers. Orchestras, which developed from folk art, are in demand today on large stages around the world.

Step 3

The first professional orchestra of folk instruments in Russia is considered the Great Russian Orchestra, formed from a circle of fans of balalaika playing, which after the October Revolution was renamed into the Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments named after V. V. Andreeva.

Step 4

The modern orchestra of Russian folk instruments traditionally includes such musical instruments as three-stringed domras, wind instruments (flutes, bagpipes, pimples of Russian origin, as well as flutes and oboes of European origin), button accordions, percussion instruments (bells, rattles, spoons, Russian tambourine origin, as well as timpani and bells of European origin), gusli and, of course, balalaikas (prims, seconds, alto, bass, contrabass).

Step 5

The prototypes of the Ukrainian orchestra of folk instruments are considered to be triple music ensembles, which consisted of three performers - a violinist, a cymbalist and a drummer. In Soviet times, the traditions of the Russian orchestra of folk instruments, the so-called Andreev Orchestra, were inherited in Ukraine. The modern orchestra of Ukrainian folk instruments is based on a group of stringed instruments similar in composition to this group in a symphony orchestra. It also includes woodwind musical instruments - flute and oboe, string-plucked (bandura and kobza), percussion instruments used in a symphony orchestra. Some orchestras also use cymbals and button accordions.

Step 6

In the last century, “Neapolitan” orchestras, which were based on mandolins and guitars, became widespread on the territory of Russia and Ukraine.
