Ilya Naishuller is a representative of a new wave of Russian filmmakers, whose films and video clips have managed to “thunder” not only in his native country, but also far beyond its borders. He is also known as the frontman of the rock music group Biting Elbows.
Biography
Ilya Viktorovich Naishuller was born in 1983 in Moscow. The father of the future director, Victor Naishuller, has been a major businessman of the year since 1998. He founded the cooperative enterprise "Balchug", and is currently known as the founder and president of the company "OMC". It is not surprising that already at the age of 8, Ilya was sent to study in London, where he became fluent in English and learned a lot of interesting things from foreign culture. Also, from an early age, the boy became interested in cinema and computer games. The future director really liked the classic James Bond films, the imperishable horror film The Thing. So he began to dream of creating his own projects.
Ilya graduated from school in Russia, returning to the country at the age of 14. It was a British private school, where the parents assigned the teenager in the hope that he would learn not only the necessary sciences, but also exemplary behavior. After completing his secondary education, Naishuller continued his studies at the Institute of Television and Radio Broadcasting. M. A. Litovchin, but without completing his studies, got a job as a laborer in "Mosfilm". I tried to comprehend the art of cinema in New York, but in the end I realized that I wanted to rely exclusively on my own knowledge in everything.
In 2008, Ilya Naishuller organized his own musical group Biting Elbows, performing post-punk and indie rock. The band has become quite popular among young people, and once even performed on the same stage with the groups Guns N 'Roses and Placebo. When creating a video for the song Dope Fiend Massacre, Naishuller's directorial potential was revealed: the video was shot in the first person and resembled a video game. The video sequence for the single Bad Motherfucker became no less dynamic.
After the success of the clips on YouTube video hosting, Ilya was contacted by the famous Russian director and producer Timur Bekmambetov, suggesting that he shoot an experimental feature film. So in 2016, Naishuller's directorial debut, Hardcore, was released. The film was distributed not only in Russia, but also in the United States, and everywhere the audience was delighted with this hurricane action movie shot in the first person.
Further career and personal life
After the first attempts in serious cinema, Ilya continued to shoot music videos familiar to himself, including for the American singer The Weeknd for the song False Alarm and the Russian band Leningrad for the song Kolshchik. The videos have garnered a large number of views across multiple platforms.
The director and musician is married. His chosen one was the actress Daria Charusha, whom he met on one of the set in 2009. A year later, the lovers played a wedding. At the moment, Ilya Naishuller continues to be engaged in creativity, but does not disclose information about upcoming projects.
