There are three versions of the cause of the events that took place in Krymsk on the night of July 6-7, 2012. According to the first of them, heavy rain fell on the city, which caused the tragedy. According to the second version, a stream of water descended from the mountains, caused by the same downpour. And the third option - the city authorities flushed water from the reservoir.

According to eyewitnesses, a powerful stream flooded the streets of the town in almost a few minutes. And in some places the waves reached up to eight meters. Of course, this did not happen throughout the settlement, but only in the lowlands. The average water level that flooded the city was 2.5 meters. It is hard to believe that an ordinary downpour could entail such consequences. But the city authorities continue to claim that the reservoir sluices did not open.

People were locked in their homes, because of the powerful stream there was no way to get out of the house. The doors were blocked by the weight of the water, and the bars on the windows prevented them from leaving the buildings. When the rubble was being taken apart, whole families were dug out of the silt. But people died not only from drowning. Several people died from being struck by lightning, someone died from hypothermia. The authorities did not immediately turn off the electricity in the houses, so some more died from electric shocks.

Official information about the tragedy in the early days was very scarce. The media reported only heavy rains and several dozen deaths. The Internet was full of truth only a few days later. A lot of photographs and video recordings can make it possible to judge the true extent of the tragedy.

According to the authorities, only 171 people died (158 in Krymsk itself). But the scale of destruction does not allow us to stop at this figure. Almost every second house was damaged, which means about 25,000 people. At the time of the tragedy, almost everyone was fast asleep, which means that they could not quickly respond to what was happening. Most of the buildings have lost their roofs, windows and doors. Sleepy citizens could hardly survive in such a hell. And the version that less than 200 people died looks at least ridiculous.

Due to the information allowed on the air, a conclusion can be drawn about the real figure. According to the assurances of the authorities, 7 billion rubles were spent on humanitarian aid. More than half of the amount was paid to the families of the victims. The maximum assistance to one person was two million rubles. If we make some simple calculations, we can assume that in fact there were about 2,000 people killed. But in Krymsk, there were about 30% of residents without a registration: vacationers, relatives of residents, business travelers and people without a fixed abode. Those. as a result, many more than 2,000 people died.

After a while, the authorities banned talking about the amounts of payments in order to prevent real numbers from broadcasting. But it was too late. The most common information is that 2,500 people died. The real number of the dead, ordinary people are unlikely to ever know. Some eyewitnesses say that in fact there were about 7000 corpses. But, most likely, this information is also incorrect. The authorities continue to assert that the number of drowned people is only 171, and then taking into account those who died in other cities.
