The future legendary actor was born in 1905 into a simple Ukrainian family with Swedish roots. The real name of Alexander Leopoldovich is Bressem. It was changed during the period of the so-called "Ukrainization".
The Khwyl family had nothing to do with art. Mom was a housewife, and dad worked as a mechanical engineer. When Sasha was 2 years old, his father died, and his mother had to take care of the family. The boy's childhood was bleak - in poverty, deprivation, with an ever-working mother and four brothers and sisters.
Nevertheless, the boy did not lose his desire for acting, the theater, and in 1922 he successfully graduated from the Vorovsky Drama Studio. And two years later, he became one of the most successful actors of the troupe of the State Theater of the Ukrainian SSR.

Real success and fame came to Alexander Leopoldovich along with the cinema. In 1932 he performed his first film role - a military orator in the film "Ivan". All his life Alexander Leopoldovich lived with one woman - his wife Anna Ivanovna. In 1937 their daughter Inessa was born. Together with his wife, Alexander Khvyl was actively involved in social activities.
The actor died in the fall of 1976. A modest funeral took place at the Kuntsevo cemetery in Moscow. On the last journey, the legend of Soviet cinema was seen off by relatives and students, but there were quite a few representatives of the cinema there. But Alexander Leopoldovich never sought fame, and his daughter noticed that he would be glad to see him off on his last journey - not pretentious speeches, but sincere love.
