On October 11, 2011, Yulia Tymoshenko was convicted. According to him, the former Prime Minister of Ukraine should be imprisoned for 7 years. This is the kind of punishment the prosecutor demanded. Why did the head of the opposition receive such a term? According to a court decision, the former prime minister was convicted of exceeding her official powers. The charge concerned the activities of Yulia Tymoshenko in the field of cooperation with Russia on gas. The gas agreements, which were adopted in 2009, were declared illegal by the court. As a result of these agreements, Neftogaz suffered significant damage. The court estimated it, translated into American currency, at $ 189.5 million. This is the amount that Tymoshenko must pay to the affected organization. Government officials from a number of countries, including Russia, sincerely disagree with the sentence. In their opinion, the former Prime Minister of Ukraine did not commit anything illegal. Therefore, such a court decision could be the beginning of a cooling of relations between Ukraine and Europe. In addition to the official point of view on the reasons for the imprisonment of Yulia Tymoshenko, there are also hidden ones, which no one talks about. They concern relations between Tymoshenko and Ukrainian oligarchs. The fact is that Tymoshenko tried in every possible way to weaken their influence on the government and on making decisions that are important for the whole country. Unlike Yushchenko and Yanukovych, Tymoshenko was not afraid to confront the oligarchs and confiscate their lands rightfully belonging to the state. Whatever the real reasons lie in Tymoshenko's detention, one thing is clear: it will not last long. Yanukovych made it clear to the media that this "annoying incident" should not have happened. It is quite probable that Yulia Tymoshenko will become free again after the appeal, but the others will already “disagree”.
