The following year, Andrei took first place at the European Championship. In 2007 he won the title of champion of Russia and secured a place in the country's Olympic team. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Balanov was unable to make it to the quarterfinals.

After an unsuccessful performance at the Olympics, Balanov did not lose heart and continued to practice boxing, but already in the status of a coach.
