Early period
Peter Watts was born on January 25, 1958. He grew up in a family where education was given great attention. At the age of 4, Peter read with confidence. I gave preference not to ABC books, but to stories about the animal world. He was especially attracted by the depths of the sea and their inhabitants.
Watts was among the top students in his class at school. His diary was exemplary. There were no problems with behavior either.
After graduating from high school, Peter entered the University of Guelph. Achieved a master's degree. He later earned his doctorate from the Institute of British Columbia.
Career
Peter Watts wrote his first serious novel in 1999. It was Starfish.
The work is based on the story "Niche", written by a science fiction writer as a student. On the pages of the manuscript, the author raised the problems of the ecology of the sea, sexual abuse. Despite the success of "Starfish" among readers, colleagues of the author called the novel "gloomy." It was also the beginning of a trilogy.
The second book, published in 2001, was called The Whirlpool by Watts. There was no development of the previous thought in it. Completed work on the trilogy release of "Betagemot". The book was in two volumes.
In 2006, Peter accepted congratulations on the release of the science fiction novel False Blindness. The writer revealed the unique facts of research into nature, the characteristics of the evolutionary process, and succinctly outlined the difference between the work of reason and intellect. This is where his deep knowledge of marine biology came in handy. The author also had to refer to the developments of his predecessors. The novel was translated from English into Russian only in 2009. 4 years later, readers were given the opportunity to read a detailed edited translation.
In 2011, Watts wrote a novel based on the popular computer game Crysis 2 - Crysis: Legion.
In 2014, "False Blindness" was to be continued. It was "Echopraxia", which tells about the events taking place on planet Earth during the period of the publication of the first book.
Currently, Peter Watts is immersed in the work on the new novel "Sunflower". Critics are already awaiting its release, pinning high hopes on the book.
Border conflict
In December 2009, Peter Watts was arrested at the Bluewater Bridge in Port Huron. This is the border between the United States and Canada. Customs officers conducted a search in the writer's car, during which he resisted. Peter was charged. According to the border guards, Watts behaved aggressively, he had to be pacified with pepper spray. However, Peter claimed that he was attacked and had to defend himself.
The researcher made a post on his personal blog, where he told the details of the incident. The city newspaper of Port Huron sent a request to customs, asking for a video of the conflict. A week later, the newspaper published a note stating that the journalists were denied the video, stressing that the investigation had not been completed.
In 2010, Peter Watts was found guilty. The famous author faced a sentence of up to two years in prison. The judge, after weighing the details of the case, decided to detain the author for 60 days. Watts did not go to jail because he paid legal fees and a fine. Now Peter is not allowed to cross the US border.
