Childhood and youth

Among the officials of the 19th century, there was an unspoken rule - never do what you need to do, but do what your bosses want. Vasily Vasilyevich Rozanov reacted with indignation to statements of this kind. He performed his duties strictly within the framework of the current regulations. At the same time, he tried not to reflect on the forms and meaning of his activities. However, after a while, the young philosopher began to be critical of the surrounding reality. Rozanov expressed his views and assessments in newspaper and magazine publications.

The future philosopher and publicist was born on April 20, 1856 in the family of an official. Parents at that time lived in the old town of Vetluga, located not far from the famous Kostroma. It was in these places that Ivan Susanin performed his feat. His father, a clergyman, served in the forestry department. Mother came from an impoverished noble family. Vasily was the sixth, penultimate child in the house. The head of the family died when he was barely five years old. The Rozanovs moved to Kostroma, where their mother soon died.

Publicist and teacher

The elder brother Nikolai took care of the younger children. In order to somehow make ends meet, Vasily undertook any job. As a high school student, he was engaged in tutoring. In 1878, having accumulated some money, Rozanov decided to get an education at the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow University. During his student years, he showed great interest in history and archeology. And also, unexpectedly for myself, I got carried away by studying the Bible and Orthodox dogmas. Having received his diploma, Rozanov chose the path of a teacher. For many years he taught at the gymnasiums of Bryansk, Yelets, Smolensk.

Rozanov's career as an educator was not developing in the best way. He was burdened by the current orders and customs that reigned within the walls of educational institutions. In 1893, Vasily Vasilyevich's article "The Twilight of Enlightenment" was published. A few months later, the author of the article was fired from the Ministry of Education. To feed his, by that time, a large family, Rozanov had to engage in journalism and translation. The Russian translation of the fundamental work of Aristotle "Metaphysics" was honored by the reading public.

Recognition and privacy

The literary work of Rozanov was highly appreciated by the proletarian writer Maxim Gorky. It was he who supported Vasily Vasilyevich during the difficult years of the First World War and revolutionary events.

The writer's personal life took shape on the second attempt. In his first marriage, he married Apollinaria Suslova, who was the mistress of Fyodor Dostoevsky. After 10 years, Rozanov met his true love - Varvara Dmitrievna Butyagina. The husband and wife raised three daughters and a son. Rozanov died in February 1919 after a serious illness.
