Mikhail Marchenko is a world-renowned scientist, holder of many scientific titles and regalia in jurisprudence. For more than 40 years, his professional activity has been associated with the country's leading university - Lomonosov Moscow State University. Marchenko is widely known as the author of many articles, textbooks, monographs, as well as the textbook "Theory of State and Law". In addition, he advises on legal issues at the highest state level - in the Constitutional Court and the Federation Council.

Biography

Mikhail Nikolaevich Marchenko was born on August 11, 1940. The small homeland of the scientist is the village of Voronezh, located in the Ust-Labinsky district of the Krasnodar Territory. It seemed that nothing in his life foreshadowed such a brilliant scientific and pedagogical career. After graduating from high school, he went to work at the Stroydetal plant in Krasnodar, where he worked until 1959. Then there was military service (1959-1962) in the Transcaucasian district. And only in 1962, Marchenko became a student of the law faculty of Moscow State University named after Lomonosov.

During his studies, he managed to establish himself from the best side, so in 1967-1971 he continued his education in graduate school. The Department of Theory of State and Law, where he underwent further studies, in 1969-1970 sent Marchenko for an internship at the London School of Economics, which is part of the group of leading universities in Great Britain.

Scientific career

After completing his postgraduate studies in 1972, he successfully defended his Ph. D. thesis. Its theme - "The political organization of Soviet society and its bourgeois" critics "was very relevant at that time. The professional path of Mikhail Marchenko at the Department of Theory of State and Law and Political Science went through several stages:

  • assistant (1972-1975);
  • senior lecturer (1975-1976);
  • Associate Professor (1977-1982);
  • professor (since 1982);
  • head of the department (since 1985).

The doctoral dissertation of the scientist was presented in 1981 and was called "The political system of modern bourgeois society (Political and legal studies)". Since 1982, for ten years, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Law. In his native Moscow State University, Marchenko also served as Vice-Rector and Deputy Chairman of the Academic Council (1992-1996). Acting as a scientific advisor, he has successfully trained nearly two dozen candidates of legal sciences and two doctors of legal sciences. His students work in scientific institutions and universities in Russia.

Mikhail Marchenko's teaching activities were not limited to Russian universities. He has lectured in Australia, USA, Japan, China, Mexico.

His opinion and authority are listened to in the highest bodies of state power. Professor Marchenko works in legal commissions in the Federation Council, acts as an adviser to the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation. With his active assistance in the early 2000s, the Association of Russian Law Universities was created.

For the development and improvement of legal education throughout the country, it was important to establish links between educational institutions. Goals and objectives of the association:

  • formation of a unified educational policy at the federal level;
  • introduction of new teaching methods,
  • exchange of information and educational technology;
  • professional development of the teaching staff;
  • organization of scientific activities and conferences;
  • establishing links with international organizations.

Paying tribute to the enormous contribution of Mikhail Marchenko, he was awarded the title of Honorary President of the Association of Law Schools.

Scientific research and publications

During his long career, the scientist has prepared over 300 scientific papers, including lectures, monographs, textbooks, manuals. The topics of his research are varied and multifaceted, and careful study and innovative approach rightfully ensure their inclusion in the "golden fund" of legal science.

At the beginning of his scientific career, Marchenko paid much attention to the study of the political systems of Western countries, their adaptation to the changing environment, and the specifics of doing business. These studies helped him in preparing a comparative analysis of national and religious legal systems: Romano-Germanic, Anglo-Saxon, Jewish, Muslim law. The scientist identified specific features, functioning features, problematic aspects of each legal family. The continuation of his research in relation to modern society was the monograph "State and Law in the Context of Globalization" (2008).

Professor Marchenko's textbooks are used to train undergraduate and graduate students in law schools in Russia and the CIS. Among the most famous publications:

  • "Theory of State and Law" (1996, 2002);
  • Comparative Jurisprudence (2000);
  • "Political Science" edited by MN Marchenko (2003);
  • "Problems of the General Theory of State and Law" (2007);
  • "Jurisprudence" co-authored with Deryabina E. M. (2012);
  • "Legal Encyclopedic Dictionary" (2009);
  • "Foundations of State and Law" in collaboration with Deryabina E. M. (2006, 2007, 2008);
  • "History of political and legal doctrines" edited by Marchenko M. N. (2012).

After the collapse of the USSR, the scientific works of the scientist made a huge contribution to the further development of legal science, its preservation and formation in new conditions.

A number of publications in recent years (2010-2014) are devoted to the legal system of the European Union as a relatively new political association. In separate courses of lectures and educational publications, Marchenko also paid attention to philosophy, sociology and the history of law.

He not only actively publishes in specialized editions, but is also a member of the editorial boards of some of them: "Journal of Russian Law", "Bulletin of Moscow University", magazines "State and Law" and "Legal Science".

Professor Marchenko was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1986) and the honorary title "Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation" (2002) for his great services in science and social activities.

Personal life

Colleagues note his energy, goodwill, willingness to help in a difficult situation, but at the same time adherence to principles and ability to defend his point of view. The personal life of Mikhail Nikolaevich Marchenko is not mentioned in open sources. But in the congratulations dedicated to the anniversaries of the scientist, one can find wishes for family well-being. This means that family and close people are present in his life.
