Early years and the beginning of a career in the theater
Rafe Fiennes was born on December 22, 1962 in Ipswich, England, to the parents of Mark Fiennes, a photographer, and Jennifer Lash, a writer. The boy's father came from an impoverished aristocratic family who had tried unsuccessfully to farm and build before taking up photography.
Rafe grew up surrounded by six more brothers and sisters, who also linked their lives with the film industry.
When the boy was 11 years old, he and his family moved to Ireland, where he began to attend school. Upon graduation, Fiennes returned to England and successfully entered the Faculty of Fine Arts at the London College of Art.
