Step 1
The notes are placed on the staff (five lines). The rulers are considered to be from bottom to top. Notes are written from left to right. Each line / line spacing of the staff is assigned an ordinal note value, while the order of the notes does not change. That is, to determine the positions of all notes on the staff, you can simply define the position of one; the rest are calculated automatically. To know which note is chosen as the starting point, there are keys in music - special characters that are usually written at the beginning of the staff. Most often, a treble clef is used to play musical instruments, as well as for the female vocal part.
Step 2
To read successfully, you need to learn the notes. This is elementary, considering that there are only seven of them: do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si. Notes, the distance between which is a multiple of an octave, are named the same. It is important to understand that there are derivatives from pure notes in music. If we take the piano as an example, then the white keys are pure sounds, and the black ones are their derivatives, namely the alternation signs (sharp and flat, which are usually written to the left of the note). A flat lowers the note one semitone lower, and a sharp raises the note one semitone higher.
Step 3
Notes have duration. The color of the note and its flag (the flag attached to the stick of the note, called the calm) determine its duration. The main durations of notes: whole (white note without calm), its half divisions: half (white with calm), then the half is split into 2 more parts and we get a quarter (black with calm), so the division goes further. No less rare are such notes in duration as the eighth (black, the calm of which has a flag at the tip), the sixteenth (black, calm with two flags), thirty-second (black, calm with three flags), etc. Shorter durations are rarely used.
Step 4
Pauses are often used in music. Sometimes a dot is attributed to a note. This means that the duration of the note is increased by another half. There are also other pauses. They can also be whole, halves, quarters, etc.

If you really want to learn how to read sheet music on your own and understand them, then the main thing is to study and practice hard.
