Irina Petrovna Bogacheva was born in 1939 in Leningrad on March 2. Her father, Peter Georgievich, worked at the city polytechnic institute. He was fluent in several foreign languages. In 1964, a singing class student made her debut as Polina in Tchaikovsky's The Queen of Spades at the Kirov Theater of Leningrad, now the Mariinsky Theater. Conservatory education was completed in 1965.

Even during her student days, Irina Petrovna became a laureate of the Glinka competition. The talented graduate was invited by the most famous musical theaters in the country. Bogacheva chose the Leningrad Kirov Theater.

In 1967, at a competition held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Bogacheva took first prize. A year later, an internship with the famous maestro Genarro Barra began. Irina Petrovna was the first of the Soviet performers-pupils to sing on the stage of La Scala. Critics and audiences alike were delighted with her brilliant performance as Ulrika in Masquerade Ball.

One of Bogacheva's favorite heroines was the Countess in The Queen of Spades. The singer, splendid in the leading roles, is no less brilliant in the secondary roles. Her interpretations by Helen and Akhrosimova have graced various versions of War and Peace.
