Alexander Anatolyevich Shirvindt was born in 1934 in Moscow. His family was musical. Anatoly Gustavovich (Teodor Gedalevich), the actor's father, worked as a music teacher and violinist in the Bolshoi Theater orchestra, and his mother, Raisa Samoilovna, worked as an editor at the Moscow Philharmonic.
