For the first time, the question of reparations not paid by Germany arose in the spring of 2010. Then the Deputy Prime Minister of Greece accused the Germans of taking out the country's gold reserves during the war, which triggered the destruction of its economy. Germany was also accused of a two-billion-dollar loan, then compulsorily issued by Greece.
Germany, in turn, said that according to the 1960 agreement, Greece had already been paid $ 74 million. In addition, the prisoners of the concentration camps received their compensation.
The issue of Germany's debt has been increasingly raised by Greece lately. However, the country's government says that this has nothing to do with the difficult economic situation and calls on the EU countries to continue to jointly continue to fight the economic crisis.
In the spring of 2012, Greece was again going to reduce the national debt by demanding reparations from the Germans, but the German Foreign Ministry refused to meet the demands. At present, the government of the country also does not consider the claims of Greece to be justified.
