It was only later that he received the title of Hero, he was awarded the rank of colonel and he became a First Class Cosmonaut, and it all started with an old boy's dream.

Biography

Yuri was born in 1941 in Nikolaevsk, Volgograd region. His family was far from thinking that a future astronaut was growing up in their family. Yura's parents had quite earthly professions: his father was an electrician, and his mother raised the children in kindergarten.

However, as a teenager, Malyshev began to dream of airplanes and that he would control a steel machine that flies high above the ground. At that time he had not thought about space yet, because there had not yet been this experience in the whole world.

At school, Yuri studied in Taganrog, and then went to Kachinsk, to the famous flying school, to get a pilot's education. He studied well, with enthusiasm and interest, and then transferred to the Kharkov School, where they also trained pilots.

During these years, Yuri Gagarin visited space for the first time in the history of mankind, and for all young people this became an occasion for inspiration, enthusiasm, and many had a desire to repeat his feat. Malyshev graduated from the flying school two years after this grandiose event, and also wanted to join the ranks of pilot-cosmonauts, to become the same as Gagarin.

Pilot career

After graduating from college, Yuri worked as a pilot until 1967, and then he was enrolled as a student-cosmonaut at the Cosmonaut Training Center, which in the USSR was a powerful scientific and practical base for training highly qualified personnel. For two years the pilot was a listener, underwent theoretical training, his physical abilities were tested. And in 1969 he could already call himself an astronaut, because he was officially appointed to the Research Institute of the Cosmonaut Training Center.

Further training under the "Spiral" program, according to the test pilots' plan, awaited him, and then preparations began for a test flight into space. In 1976, Malyshev was a backup for the Soyuz-22 commander. That is, it was already a real chance to fly into space, if something does not work out for the real crew.

In space

In 1980, it happened - Yuri Malyshev flew into space, and was the commander of the Soyuz T-2 spacecraft. Aksenov Vladimir Viktorovich became his partner. They were in space for almost four days, which is quite a lot, considering that you are somewhere in an airless space, far from your usual environment and reliable comrades.

After these flights, the cosmonaut's training continued, and he could once again fly into space, but in 1988 he moved to a full-time position at the Cosmonaut Training Center, which by that time was already named after Yuri Gagarin.

For more than ten years he worked in this position, and in 1999 he died suddenly.
