Evgeny Kaspersky was born in Novorossiysk in 1965 and was brought up in an ordinary working-class family. From childhood, he showed brilliant mathematical abilities, thanks to which he won almost all Olympiads in this subject. After school, the young man entered the Higher School of the KGB and successfully graduated from it in 1987, having received an engineering and mathematical education. He got a job at a research institute under the state Department of Defense and took up the study of computer viruses.
Kaspersky made rapid progress in developing anti-virus software. In 1989, his first "curative" utility, Cascade, was released, and in 1992 - a unique set of AVP programs, which received international recognition. In 1997, Eugene created his own company, Kaspersky Lab, and launched the SecureList Internet portal, which has become a reference book on computer viruses and vulnerabilities and is still in operation.
