The future Russian statesman and public figure was born in the village of Mekegi (Dagestan) on June 6, 1954. Hamidov is a Dargin by nationality. From his youth, Hamid went in for sports, becoming a master in a serious sport - freestyle wrestling. Good physical fitness subsequently greatly helped Hamidov to withstand a tense work rhythm.

After graduating from the army service, Hamidov received a higher education: he graduated from the Dagestan State University, where he studied at the Faculty of Economics. The character of the future politician and prominent economist was laid precisely in his younger years.

In the early 90s, Hamidov gained fame in society, becoming the founder of the commercial structure "Elbin Bank". After some time, Hamid Mustafayevich headed the Main Directorate of the Central Bank of the country for the Republic of Dagestan. Two years later, he became the head of the republican branch of Sberbank of Russia.

At the end of 1994, Hamidov was elected a deputy of the lower house of the Russian parliament of the first convocation. In the Duma, he was a member of the Russian Regions group. He took part in the work of the Duma committee on taxes, budget, banks and finance. In the spring of 1996, Hamidov was appointed Minister of Finance of Dagestan. For this reason, he resigned from his parliamentary powers.

Hamidov was engaged in active social activities. He became one of the organizers of the Islamic Fund, which was involved in charity work. Hamidov headed the Boxing Federation, as well as the Freestyle Wrestling Federation of the Republic of Dagestan, was the president of the Makhachkala football club "Dynamo".

Hamidov is the author of a textbook on banking.

The tragic death of Hamid Hamidov

The life of the Dagestani politician was cut short by a terrorist attack. On August 20, 1996, Hamidov with security went up the stairs to the Ministry of Finance of Dagestan. At that moment, a car packed with explosives, parked near the building, exploded. The explosion scattered pieces of the car within a radius of one and a half hundred meters. Hamidov and two of his guards died on the spot, and many people were injured. Customers and perpetrators of the crime have not yet been identified.

After the tragic death of Hamidov, the post of Minister of Finance of the republic was held by his younger brother Abdusamad, who in 2013 headed the government of Dagestan.

In 2000, Hamid Hamidov's son, Jamal, was abducted at the age of eight. He spent more than three years in captivity, after which he was released.

Hamid Hamidov said this about his position in life: in order to live for oneself, one must live for others. He considered the Dagestani people his conscience. Dagestanis cherish the memory of their famous compatriot.
