The future famous Russian footballer was born on December 4, 1975 in the city of Kizilyurt, which is located in Dagestan. By nationality, Budunov is an Avar. As a child, he was involved in many sports, including basketball and judo wrestling. The family supported the boy's hobbies. When Budun was nineteen, he came to big football. His first club was "Argo" (Kaspiysk), the team of the third league. A year later, the athlete moved to Anji (Makhachkala). The first years he played in the third league, being a member of the second team of the club. In 2000, the team in which Budunov played, moved to the top division.

In subsequent years Budun Khachabekovich Budunov played for the teams "Tom" and FC "Moscow". In the spring of 2006, the footballer transferred to Terek (Grozny) on loan. In early 2008, Budunov decided to end his career in sports. A few months later, he was appointed to the post of Deputy Minister of Sports and Physical Culture of Dagestan. Subsequently, Budunov becomes the president of the football union of this republic. The experience and knowledge gained in previous years on the football field helped Budunov cope with his responsibilities in his new position.

In 2016, Budunov continued to work in the civil service, becoming the deputy head of the Khasavyurt district of Dagestan.

Tragedy on the football field

On August 18, 2001, the match between Budunov's team and CSKA took place, which ended tragically. During the game, Budunov collided with the goalkeeper of the opposing team, Sergei Perkhun. Both athletes were seriously injured. At the same time, Budunov suffered a serious concussion and lost his memory. Perkhun, on the other hand, died a few days later from his injury in the clinic. Experts have analyzed in detail the game moment that led to the tragedy on the field. It so happened that Perkhun, in the fight for the ball, went outside the goalkeeper's area and, in fact, turned into a field player, since he could not play with his hands. Budunov later admitted that he would not have started the attack if the goalkeeper was within his playing area. As a result, the striker played the ball with his head, turning sideways. There was a clash of rivals. At this moment, the goalkeeper failed to insure himself.

Such episodes are not at all uncommon in big football. And almost always the goalkeeper becomes the most vulnerable side in the confrontation.

Leaving the hospital, Budunov found the strength to meet with Perkhun's mother. The conversation was difficult. But the grief-stricken woman agreed that Budunov had no intent to harm her son. It just happened that the sporting fate of the army goalkeeper, which he himself chose.
