The future theater and film actor was born on January 31, 1937 in Siauliai, Lithuania. In his youth, he did not think about theater and cinema. After graduating from school in 1954, Regimantas became a student of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Vilnius University, and in 1959 he successfully graduated.

Already during his studies, Adomaitis tried himself in student theater. A year before graduation, he already studied at the acting department of the Vilnius Conservatory, which he graduated four years later.

Work in the theater

From 1962 to 1964, Adomaitis was an actor at the Kapsukas Drama Theater. Subsequently, he moved to the Kaunas Drama Theater. The performances with his participation were very popular with the audience; among them: "King Lear" by Shakespeare, "Humiliated and Insulted" by Dostoevsky, "Lady with the Camellias" by Dumas.

In 1967 Adomaitis became an actor of the Lithuanian State Academic Drama Theater. Among the works of this period: "Means Makropoulos", "Climbing Mount Fujiyama", "Richard III", "Moliere", "Pygmalion" and many others.

Adomaitis also had a chance to cooperate with small theaters.

Film actor career

Since 1963, Regimantas Adomaitis has been trying his hand at cinema. He began his career as an actor with the film "The Chronicle of a Day". Adomaitis played his first major role in the Lithuanian film "Games of Adults". For this work, he was awarded the Prize of the Film Festival of the Baltic States, Belarus and Moldova.

The actor became known to a wide audience in 1967, when he played the role of the famous revolutionary Sergei Lazo in the film of the same name. This work won the Best Actor Film Festival award.

This was followed by the main roles in the films "This Sweet Word - Freedom!", "The Whole Truth About Columbus", "One on One", "Accident", "Centaurs", "Lost Home". True popularity came to Adomaitis in the 80s. Shooting in popular cinematographers made Regimantas a star of the first magnitude in domestic cinema. Among his best works of that period: "The Trust That Burst", "The Rich Man, the Poor Man …", "Mirage", "American Tragedy", "Green Van".

In the next decade, the actor showed his talent in the films "Angels of Death", "Method of Murder", "Split". Already in this century, viewers were able to appreciate the virtuoso performance of the actor in the films and TV series "Moscow Saga", "Taste of Pomegranate", "Third Heaven", "Shores of My Dreams".

Adomaitis admitted that when working in films, he sometimes got roles in which he portrayed people who were not like himself. He considers himself a balanced and calm person. The rebellious spirit is not his character trait. But on stage and on the set, Adomaitis had to transform into a rebel more than once.

Regimantas Vaitkusovich Adomaitis is known as a politician. In 1988 he was a member of the Lithuanian Perestroika Movement. Later he was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. However, in subsequent years, the actor became disillusioned with politics.

Until 2011, Adomaitis was married to Eugenia Bayorita. They met on the set of one of the films. The couple were married for four decades, until the death of Eugenia. Regimantas has three sons.

In old age, the actor became interested in weaving from a vine. He also devotes a lot of time to beekeeping.
